Wave is a survivor. One of 10 dogs we took in from a large-scale neglect case, she’s finally learning what kindness feels like. She’s still learning that the world can be safe, and is even starting to greet her fosters at the door with the other dogs. A small victory, but a big breakthrough when you consider all she’s been through.

As she heals emotionally, we need to give her the chance to heal physically as well. Like many of her rescued friends, Wave is heartworm positive. A more serious diagnosis than it sounds. It’s not a “treat when we can” situation. It’s a “start to treat now” or risk losing her. We can’t ask her to survive neglect, AND survive this without help. We’re the difference between healing and heartbreak.

Wave is gentle and grateful—and we’re determined to see her through to the healthy, happy life ahead.
