Meet Sundae! Sundae is a sweet, treat-loving girl who is looking for a patient home where she can feel safe, settle in at her own pace, and build a lasting bond with her person. She may need a little time to warm up in a new environment, but once she begins to feel comfortable, her loving personality starts to shine. She enjoys belly rubs, occasional morning snuggles, and cozy, quiet spaces where she can relax and feel secure. Sundae is a smart girl who knows her sit and stay commands and responds wonderfully to treats. She is very food motivated, making positive reinforcement a great way to continue building her confidence and working on training. Inside the home, she is well behaved and appreciates a predictable routine and having a comfortable place of her own, like a covered crate or a quiet spot under the bed.
Sundae will need an adopter who understands that she is still working on feeling comfortable around unfamiliar people and other animals. She can become tense, raise the hair along her back, and lunge when they get too close, so she needs someone willing to continue working with her through patient, positive training. She should never be forced into introductions and will do best with someone who allows her to build trust at her own pace. Sundae’s safety is especially important! She is a very fast escape artist with a strong prey drive, and squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other moving things can tempt her to take off. A fenced yard alone is not enough to keep her safe. She must be securely leashed and directly supervised whenever she is outside, even in a fenced backyard, and doors and gates need to be watched carefully. Her recall is still a work in progress, so she cannot be trusted off leash.
Sundae also takes prescribed daily medication, fluoxetine, which will need to be continued as directed by her veterinarian. She can be a little tricky about taking it, but tasty treats and a little creativity can help! Car rides aren’t her favorite, and she usually prefers curling up on a familiar blanket in a quiet spot rather than watching the world go by. She thrives with calm surroundings, familiar routines, and people who understand that progress takes time. Sundae may not be the kind of girl who runs straight into your arms on the first day, but give her patience, consistency, gentle encouragement, and a safe place to land, and you may just become her favorite person. She has already made wonderful progress, and we can’t wait to see her continue to blossom with a family who loves her for exactly who she is.
If you’re ready to give Sundae the time, understanding, and commitment she needs, she may be the special companion you’ve been looking for!
