Floatie was part of a large hoarding case, we were able to save 10 dogs from a property of more than 40. She appears to be one of the older ones, with an age estimate of 6 years. Her new foster home quickly noticed she had a cough. We knew many of her friends from this property were heartworm positive, and were terrified of what it meant for our older gal to already be at the coughing stage of it. She went into the vet to confirm our suspicions and rule out other complications. Our hearts both leapt and sank at the results- like so many of the others, she’s battling heartworm disease.
The good news for Floatie is that she appears to be otherwise healthy, no obvious ongoing damage to her heart has been done (yet). She seems to be fairly well socialized, and is happy to get affectionate from her foster family. She’s playful, so snuggly, but really just starting to discover what it means to be someone’s dog. Sadly, her heartworm status is a serious threat. Floatie deserves to heal, to play, and to continue to grow old without this cloud hanging over her. Let’s get her through treatment and into the life she was always meant for!
