Miff was at a high volume shelter, unable to stand up and severely emaciated. They sent out a plea, knowing she needed more help than they could offer and not wanting to see her suffer. We scooped her and rushed straight the vet as quickly as possible, assuming she had a broken leg. The news was so much worse than that.

At the vet, her doctor said he actually couldn’t hear her heart at all. Deeply concerned with this, full body radiographs were added to her order, instead of just her bum leg. It turns out, Miff had a herniated diaphragm. Her intestines were basically pushing into her chest cavity. Her liver was flipped over upside down, she couldn’t hold her body right to defecate, and her femur was fractured. We weren’t even sure if she would get to keep the leg. Despite all of that, Miff remained in high spirits. Wiggling around and wanting to give out endless kisses. We knew we had to try for her, no matter the outcome.

Things for Miff went from bad to worse, with two major surgeries looming. The diaphragm surgery would be so delicate, there was no hope that they’d be able to repair the leg at the same time. Before they started, they were so concerned they asked us to stay by the phone just in case things went south and quick decisions for her life needed to be made.

Against all odds, Miff’s surgery went great. She recovered great. 5 days later she went into surgery for her broken leg, and got to keep her leg too! The assumption is she was hit by a car. How her 12 lb body survived that, we don’t know but we’re so glad it did. She’s a miracle fighter girl.

Miff’s recovering in her foster home, and is so so close to finally getting her forever. One last check to make sure things healed great, and we should be home free.
