Story: Mary J Blige was rescued from a breeder shutdown
Mary is a sweetheart of a dog who came from a difficult background. She is very loving once she warms up to her people, but it will take patience to get her there. She seems like she hasn’t gotten to experience much home life, so she’s still learning what the good life is all about. Because of that, she is prone to retreat back to her safe spaces if she gets startled by noises in the house or other activity she’s still adjusting to. She’s house-trained if she is taken out frequently, but her person does need to go outside with her because she’s still a bit fearful being out there alone. Thresholds are scary for her, so lots of encouragement to go through doorways and changes of scenery is key.
Mary sleeps through the night in her crate, it’s her designated safe space and one of her favorite places to be. She does great crated in the house when her people aren’t home, as she does get a bit anxious when left alone. Mary has a good appetite and loves treats. Her favorite time of day is after breakfast when she loves to just lie at your feet and nap. Mary will do best in a home where her people are able to stay with her most of the time. She does well with other dogs if they respect her space. If she meets the right dog, she will have fun playing with them. But she wouldn’t mind being an only dog as long as she’s not often left alone.
If you adopt Mary, its important to understand that she’s been used for breeding her entire life and needs lots of patience and gentle love to learn that she’s safe, secure, and loved without conditions now. The reward of seeing her start to trust you will be worth it, though. When Mary smiles at you, your heart will melt!
